Really Quick Color Theory
in 3 Easy Steps:

1. There are 3 Primary Colors: Red, Yellow and Blue;

2. Anytime that ALL 3 Primary Colors come together, you have a MUDDY color

3. Colors are considered Warm or Cool, and this is a comparative study. Think of Warm colors like Fire and Cool colors like Artic Ice.

A Cool Red will lean towards blue, like Alizarin Crimson. (Red + Blue = Cool Red)
A Warm Red will lean towards Red Orange, like Cad. Red (Red + Yellow= Warm Orange)

A Cool Blue will lean towards green, like Cerulean Blue (Blue+ Yellow)
A Warm Blue will lean towards Purple, like French Ultramarine. (Blue + Red)

Now, to make a Brilliant Purple, Mix French Ultramarine and Alizarin Crimson. This will make a nice, clean purple.

To make a real Dirty Purple, use a warm red, like Cad. Red (Red + Yellow), and Cerulean Blue, (Blue + Yellow). Notice, you may have used only 2 Colors, but the 3 Primaries have come together: Red, Yellow & Blue = Mud.

Try this at home, it's fun!
