What's with all the bugs and stuff?

Alot of people don't get it Why would anyone want to go out in the desert to paint, when you can paint in a nice, climate controlled environment?

Well, Maynard Dixon is one of my favorite artists. He really got the experience. Below is a copy of the poem he wrote in 1921. When I read it's words it got to me, and in a moment, I knew his words were true for me:

Quantum Sufficet

O, I am Maynard Dixon,
and I live out here, alone
with pencil and pen and paint-brush
and a camp stool for my throne
king of the desert country
holding a magic key
to the world's magnificent treasure
none can unlock but me!
At times come terrible moments
whom desire fills full my soul, and women and wine
and cities seem a compelling goal;
But I wake with a start to my desert
and its lovely vistas unfurled, -
I'd rather be Maynard Dixon,
than anyone else in the world!

If you would like to know more about this wonderful, American artist, Click on Artist Maynard Dixon. It's a great VIDEO and you can find out alot about this American artist. Also, there is a museum in Tucson, Arizona dedicated to his works. So, next time I'm out there, I will glad shoot some pics and blog about it.
Live, love and paint,

Terry

Sounds like Maynard was in the desert quite a long time if he was starting to make up poetry! Or maybe I'm just projecting, but I never do that unless I've been out alone so long that I'm starting to recycle my thoughts and have nothing new to entertain myself with. Seriously, it's a good quote, and I think the last line is one we can all aspire to: To be our best selves, doing what we love best, with no apologies.
