Home Study
I'm working out of this terrific book. I bought it a few years ago. It's called, "Creating Impressionist Landscapes in Oil, by Whisson.

I use this book when I can't get outside and paint from life. Unfortunately, his demonstrations are in oils. But I'm okay with that, even though I consider myself a Watercolorist.

Creating Eye Paths
One of the most interesting things that I discovered is creating eye paths. On this composition, on the right is a mass of shadow. What makes it unique is that it forms little arrows pointing to the lake. The little clump of grass on the left, shadows, point to the lake.

Palm Trees at Laundrymat
So, next I've been working on creating little eye paths in my trees. Do I want the viewer to look up, down, left or right. So, that was alot of fun. California is great. I love looking at all different types of Palm Trees.

Finally - Plein Air Painting, Again
While my friends enjoyed fishing, I decided to get out my little set of watercolors and do a quick painting. I loves sitting out under a shade tree and painting. The sights, the smells. Laughter was in the air, as the children were playing with the fountains of water.

I only had a couple of colors of paint. It really forced me to think creatively. I had to keep telling myself, painting the correct value is more important than painting the correct color

Live, love and paint,

Terry
